Kristie Goeckner DNP, RN, CDCES, CNEcl
Dr. Goeckner is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist who worked as an outpatient diabetes educator for 4 1/2 years before transitioning to full-time faculty at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in the School of Nursing. She completed her associate's degree in nursing at Lake Land College in 2008. She attended Southern Illinois University and obtained the following degrees: a baccalaureate in nursing in 2016, a master's degree in nursing education in 2018, and a Post-Master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2024.
Those participating in this activity will be able to:
- Identify effective strategies to stabilize blood sugar levels, reducing the risk of dangerous highs and lows.
- Distinguish between the signs of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia
- Discuss emergency treatments for both hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia.
- Identify common misconceptions about blood glucose emergencies.

ACCREDITATION and CREDIT DESIGNATION:
SIU School of Medicine is preapproved as a continuing nursing education provider pursuant to Section 1300.130, subsection c), 1), B) and P) of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation Nurse Practice Act. Nurses may receive a maximum of 1 contact hour for completing this activity.
SIU School of Medicine is a licensed provider for continuing education for nursing home administrators (license #139-000027), social workers (license #159-000106), clinical psychologists (license # 268-000008), professional counselors/clinical counselors (license number 197-000073), and dietitians/nutrition counselors (license # 199.000121). This program offers a maximum of 1 CE hours.
All other attendees will receive a Certificate of Participation.
